Mission Statement

The Messenger Quartet was formed in April of 2001. The group is made up from members in the Killeen, Texas area. The quartet has been richly blessed with not only very talented singers who have worked hard on their craft, but also in their way of life as Christian men. The group has had great local success that is ever growing into a larger area almost on a monthly basis.

The group's style is Southern Gospel. They have worked hard to preserve the traditional style and sound of some of the pioneer quartets of our time, while utilizing some of the more modern musical sounds. The group seems to be headed for great accomplishments in their field.

Above all else this group is ministry oriented. They believe that they should not just entertain, but truly minister, although they do have a wonderful time doing what God has called them to do. With each performance, the audience will laugh, cry, and maybe even shout a little.

"Our prayer is that maybe one of the songs that is sung will touch some one in a way that brings them closer to God or if they do not know the Lord on a personal basis that they be moved to make that commitment".

Meet the Messenger Quartet

Les Baker is a man of many hats. Les has been a team roper, a contractor, a sales manager in the home business, he spent two years as a customer service manager for Centel, he worked for eleven years in public service as a policeman, a fireman and a paramedic. He even teaches the adult Sunday school class at his church. Les comes form a God fearing family, his mother was very involved in their church and played the piano, his father an ordained minister. With all of this Les was saved, and came to know the Lord at the early age of seven. Les has always been a singer he even sang in his school choir. Les plays many instruments, and enjoys what musicians call "Jammin". During his time at Centel, Les put together a group to sing at company functions. He traveled with the Faith Temple Singers and sang with the Evangel Temple Quartet. Les, before the quartet, had a phenomenal solo ministry, singing as well as preaching. Les Baker has had many goals throughout his life and has accomplished them with great success, but he still strives to accomplish the never-ending task of leading souls to Jesus. Les lives in Killeen Texas with his high school sweet heart and wife of twenty-five years Paula. He has two children Misty and Dustin, which both will start seminary school in 2002.

David Schwertner lends a great foundation to the group with a bass voice that is getting increasingly harder to find now days. David is one of the most unique, but yet still traditional bass singers of our day. David has been singing semi-professionally for ten years. He sang previously with The Evangel Temple Quartet and The New Vision Quartet. David is a native of Killeen Texas. David attended Mary Hardin-Baylor on a golf scholarship. David is an avid out-doorsman, in his spare time he is hunting or fishing. During deer season it is hard to get him out of the blind long enough to even eat. David loves to hunt and fish but gospel music has had a real effect on his life. Whenever it's time to sing, David is ready. David, as well as all of the group members, know that God has put this group together for a reason, and that reason is to see lives changed and saved for the cause of the Cross. David takes very serious the call that God has put on his life. Any time and any place, he is ready to share in song or with words what God has done for him, and what God can do for anyone who is ready to turn their life over to the Lord. David and his wife Mandy live in Killeen, Texas with their beautiful twins Caleb and Chloe.

Andy Binion, Lead Singer. Andy is a well versed young man in the music industry from grabbing top honors in the state in his high school years to writing both praise songs and good old Southern Gospel songs and music where his heart is. Andy also heads the band and platform duties at his fathers church in Killeen, Texas as a key part in the ministry Andy, is as good of a piano player as anyone in the industry and we feel that he is top in his class, and we are very blessed to have him with us as we are working on 5 years together as a quartet doing both live music and tracks. Andy's wife Lana has been very supportive of his music endeavors and with their new addition to the family "Little Drew" thats Andrew C. Binion Jr. He is a born natural singer and already goes to sleep regularly listening to his Daddy sing to him as Drew sings with him. Andy is a great addition to the group from being our piano player to the Lead singer and piano player and doing a great job covering both duties.

John Abbey, Piano. Born and raised in western New York State, John has been playing publicly by ear since he was 14. His muscial education has been limited, but his experience has been extensive, but never veering from his gospel roots. Moved by "Uncle Sam" to Ft. Hood in 1965 he found himself playing for the army chapels and in 1967 became the pianist for Faith Temple Church. He married Linda Dunn in 1968. He is the father of three wonderful children. Ordained in 1979, he has pastored and also traveled as a musical family ministry. He has numerous records and six cd's to his credit. Currently he is a staff minister/musician at Faith Temple Church. Joining the Messenger Quartet is also a "reunion" of sorts, working once again with Charles King and after 23 years.

Charles King, Tenor. What do you say about a singer as incredible as Charles King! Charles started singing early with his two brothers. Together they formed the King Trio. Charles was the minister of music at Faith Temple Church for 24 years. Charles has wowed audiences all over the country. His tenor voice is unlike any other. He frequently ministers for Rhema Bible Training Center and Church in Tulsa, Ok, where he graduated with his wife Diane. His voice is definately anointed by God! We know first hand that lives will be changed when he steps on stage.
